Astonishing beauty can be found in many areas of the Masai Mara, but one particular place that I am deeply fond of is the riverine forest close to the Musiara. The first rays of sunrise transform the forest into a world of wonder, as beams of light cast deep shadows across the twisted and gnarly vines.
A silouette of baboons catch my eye in the distance, sat amongst the fallen and perished Acai trees that are nestled between the dense vegetation. Keeping close to the bank of the Mara river, we slowly make our way through the forest.
The beautiful sounds of birdsong reverberate through the forest, as we finally find Olopono’s resting place. Earthy scents linger in the air, as Olopono drifts in and out of a deep sleep. Eyes laser focused on me, a gentle reminder that moments such as these should be truly cherished.
